As a retired law enforcement officer, BSIS Firearms Instructor, NRA Instructor, and DOJ FSC Instructor, I have nearly 15 years of experience in the security industry, where I have trained security professionals and individuals in the safe, responsible, and effective use of firearms and other job-related tools.

My training philosophy is centered on safety, professionalism, practical application, and continuous skill development. I tailor instruction to the experience level and needs of each client, with the goal of helping every student become a more competent, confident, and proficient firearms handler.

With more than 30 years of law enforcement experience in supervisory, management, investigative, and specialized tactical assignments, I bring a proven record of leadership, sound judgment, and professional service to every assignment.

My law enforcement career includes extensive experience as a manager and supervisor, with responsibilities involving personnel leadership, investigations, training, operational planning, and critical incident response. I also served 13 years in the United States Army Reserve as a Staff Sergeant in a Military Police unit, serving in both officer and investigative capacities.

Throughout my career, I have been selected for specialized assignments requiring a high level of professionalism, discipline, and attention to detail. My experience includes serving as an assistant commander, instructor, and marksman with a specialized crisis-response tactical unit, as well as assignments involving private security and protective details.

My investigative background includes specialized training and experience in homicide and deadly-force investigations, while my protective-services experience includes dignitary protection and security operations.

I am also an experienced firearms instructor and range-safety professional, holding certifications including NRA Pistol and Rifle Instructor, NRA Chief Range Safety Officer, and NRA Inside/Outside the Home Instructor.

U.S. Marine Corps veteran, active law enforcement professional, and accomplished firearms and tactical instructor with more than two decades of combined military and public-safety experience. A former Marine Corps Combat Instructor and Infantry Squad Leader, I bring extensive experience in combat shooting, weapons systems, defensive tactics, urban operations, surveillance, and the apprehension of high-risk offenders.

As a California POST Rangemaster, BSIS Firearms Instructor, Glock Armorer, and Range Safety Officer, I combine advanced instructor credentials with real-world operational experience. My approach to firearms training emphasizes disciplined weapons handling, tactical decision-making, practical marksmanship, and performance under pressure.

With 25 years of service as a Reserve Officer for Los Angeles County, I have built a career defined by discretion, discipline, and operational excellence. My background includes gang suppression in multi-agency task forces, correctional facility security, and protective details for high-profile politicians and elite athletes. This experience has shaped a practical, composed, and highly disciplined approach to personal protection and tactical instruction.

In addition to my law enforcement career, I bring 35 years of martial arts experience, including a 1st-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, as well as extensive training in Muay Thai and Filipino Martial Arts through the Lameco System. My philosophy is rooted in fundamentals, efficiency, and composure under pressure.

I believe true protection is not built on force alone, but on the ability to control a situation, de-escalate when possible, and respond decisively when necessary. My training is designed to develop dependable, instinctive skills that hold up under real-world stress.

I became an NRA Pistol, Rifle and Shotgun Instructor with a passion for helping others become safe, confident, and capable shooters. I started by teaching family and friends, and assisting with firearms training classes.

Over time, I discovered my true calling as a long-range shooting instructor. I enjoy taking concepts that can seem complicated and breaking them down into practical, easy-to-understand lessons.

I can explain MOA (Minute of Angle) and how it changes with distance, as well as how those measurements apply when shooting from 200 yards out to 1,000 yards. Ever wondered about the difference between First Focal Plane (FFP) and Second Focal Plane (SFP) scopes? That’s where I can help. I’m That Guy—the person you can turn to when you want to understand your rifle, optic, and the fundamentals of long-range shooting.
I’ve created a Beginning Long Range Course designed around an important concept: fit the rifle to you—not you to the rifle.

Once your rifle and equipment are properly set up, we’ll begin building your DOPE (Data On Previous Engagements) and learning how to use that information to improve consistency and confidence at distance.

My goal is simple: help you understand your equipment, understand the fundamentals, and become a more capable long-range shooter.

Eric Balch

I bring 28 years of law enforcement experience, including numerous special assignments and specialized duties. I have 20 years of experience serving as a Law Enforcement Ranger Master and have extensive expertise as an armorer, impact munitions instructor, and chemical agent instructor.

I have completed law enforcement armorer courses through Lassen College and have extensive hands-on experience building, maintaining, diagnosing, and troubleshooting firearms.

In addition, I have 45 years of experience reloading ammunition, providing me with extensive practical knowledge of ammunition components, loading processes, and firearms function.
